Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-04-21
Rev Up Hope ("we", "us", "our") operates donatecarnyc.org to collect vehicle donations in California, California and connect residents with the government benefits they qualify for. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
When you use this site, we collect:
- Donation form submissions — name, email, phone, ZIP code, vehicle year/make/model, and the pages you viewed. You provide this voluntarily when you start a donation.
- Benefits-finder responses — the ZIP code and screening answers you enter in the embedded tool (operated by our partner National Heritage for the Blind). See "Partner tools" below.
- Technical data — IP address, user-agent (browser/OS), referring URL, and timestamps collected automatically when you visit the site. These are used for security, abuse prevention, and aggregate analytics.
How we use your information
- To process your vehicle donation — coordinate pickup, issue your IRS tax receipt (Form 1098-C), and follow up by phone or email.
- To fund our benefits-research work — the proceeds of your vehicle donation underwrite our effort to connect California residents with programs like SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, WIC, LIHEAP, and state-specific equivalents.
- To measure site performance and prevent abuse.
- To comply with legal obligations — tax reporting, charitable-solicitation registration, etc.
Partner tools — National Heritage for the Blind
Our benefits-finder widget is provided by National Heritage for the Blind (NHFTB), a separate nonprofit. When you use the widget, the information you enter (ZIP, demographics, benefit selections) is sent directly to NHFTB's servers, not ours. NHFTB's handling of that data is governed by NHFTB's privacy policy. If you opt in to receive emailed benefit results from NHFTB, you are providing your email address to them, not to us.
Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Pickup partners — the towing company assigned to collect your vehicle (name, phone, pickup address).
- Tax processors — for generating your IRS Form 1098-C.
- Service providers — email/SMS notification services, secure hosting, error logging. Contracts with these providers prohibit using your data for anything other than serving you.
- Law enforcement — only in response to a valid legal request.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses a minimal set of cookies for session security. If analytics (Google Analytics 4 or similar) is enabled, it collects aggregated, pseudonymous usage data — no personally identifying information is shared with analytics providers. You can disable cookies in your browser at any time.
Data retention
Donation-form submissions are retained for as long as needed to complete the donation and the following 7 years for IRS record-keeping. Technical logs are retained up to 90 days for security purposes. Benefits-finder data retention is managed by NHFTB per their policy.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction or deletion of your information (subject to IRS retention rules above).
- Opt out of marketing emails at any time via the unsubscribe link in any message.
- For California residents: rights under the CCPA including the right to know, delete, and opt out of sale (we do not sell your data).
- For EU/UK residents: rights under the GDPR including data portability and lodging a complaint with your data-protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@1800donatecars.com or write to our corporate office: 2071 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11234.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
